The boat safari on the Madu River near Hikkaduwa has been delighting both domestic and international tourists for many years. From the boat dock, you board a waiting boat and embark on a cruise lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. You can venture into the mangrove forests to observe wildlife, as well as experience activities such as cinnamon-making and fish massages.
Since the boat sits close to the water, you can feel a strong connection with the river and fully immerse yourself in nature. It's a wonderful way to experience the natural beauty of the area.
Sea Turtle Farm & Hatchery

This is a sea turtle conservation facility located in the small beach town of Kosgoda, east of Galle. Here, they protect sea turtles injured due to various accidents, as well as sea turtle eggs, and work to safely return them to the ocean. If the timing is right, you may be able to witness the hatching of sea turtle eggs or the release of baby turtles into the sea.
A similar facility can also be found in Hikkaduwa.


Whale watching Mirissa

The southern region of Sri Lanka is renowned as one of the world's premier whale-watching spots. Off the coast of this area, you can spot various species of whales, dolphins, and even orcas, with blue whales and sperm whales being the main highlights.
The best season for whale watching is from November to April. During this period, the sea is relatively calm, and whales tend to gather off the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Early mornings are particularly ideal for sightings, and many tours depart from Mirissa Harbor around 6:00 AM. The duration of the tours is approximately 5 to 6 hours.
Kalametiya Sanctuary Birdwatching

The Kalametiya Sanctuary, located near the southern beach town of Tangalla, is a hidden paradise for migratory birds known to those in the know.
Here, you can experience a birdwatching tour on a quiet, manually paddled boat. The Kalematiya Sanctuary is a unique area with expansive wetlands, home to over 200 species of birds, including migratory ones, allowing you to see different types of birds depending on the season. Particularly, the period from October to April is the best season, as many migratory birds visit during this time. You’ll undoubtedly be left breathless by the sight of flocks of flamingos standing in the wetlands or raptors soaring high in the sky.
Since there are no tour operators within the sanctuary, it is essential to make a reservation by the day before your visit.

Ambuluwawa Tower is a landmark located near Gampola in central Sri Lanka and has gained popularity as a tourist destination in recent years.
This tower is not only a religious symbol but also captivates visitors with its astonishing architectural design and its serene, nature-surrounded location.
Standing approximately 48 meters tall, the tower features a striking spiral staircase on its exterior. Climbing this staircase offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding area, but the steps are narrow and the wind can be strong, making it unsuitable for those with a fear of heights or young children.
Located about 7 kilometers from the town of Gampola, the tower is accessible by car or tuk-tuk.
Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden
Damro Labookellie Tea Centre is a popular tea garden located near Nuwara Eliya, a renowned tea-growing region in Sri Lanka.
At the on-site café, visitors can enjoy freshly brewed tea from the garden, along with a signature cake set and light snacks. Guests can also experience tea picking while dressed in a traditional sari (reservation required) or purchase Labookellie-branded tea, offering an opportunity to immerse themselves in Sri Lanka’s rich tea culture.
The factory tour includes a guided visit where guests can observe the entire tea-making process, from leaf harvesting to production and packaging. The tour also provides insights into the meticulous craftsmanship and quality control measures involved in tea production.


Little Adam's Peak

The hiking trail to Little Adam's Peak is relatively short, allowing visitors to reach the summit in approximately 30 to 45 minutes one way. With gentle slopes and well-maintained paths, it is an accessible hike suitable for beginners and families.
Along the way, you will pass through lush tea plantations, where you can observe local workers tending to the fields up close. Upon reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views overlooking the Ella Gap.
Little Adam’s Peak is located about 2 km from the center of Ella town. It is accessible on foot, or you can reach the starting point in about 10 to 15 minutes by tuk-tuk or car.
Ravana falls

Ravana Falls is a magnificent waterfall located near Ella in central Sri Lanka, renowned for its natural beauty as well as its historical and mythological significance.
This three-tiered waterfall cascades down from a height of approximately 25 meters, flowing over multiple rock formations. During the rainy season, the water volume increases dramatically, enhancing its powerful presence. Although the flow is reduced in the dry season, the waterfall remains a stunning sight worth visiting.
The name "Ravana Falls" originates from the legendary demon king Ravana, a central figure in the ancient Indian epic Ramayana. According to legend, Ravana kidnapped the Indian queen Sita and hid her in a cave near this waterfall.
Ravana Falls is located about 6 km from Ella town and is easily accessible by car or tuk-tuk. Situated along the main road, it offers convenient access for visitors.


Nine arch bridge

The Nine Arch Bridge, located in the mountainous region of Ella, is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks. As its name suggests, this railway bridge features nine elegant arches and is also known as the Demodara Bridge. Built in 1921 during the British colonial era, the bridge stands majestically amidst lush jungle scenery, making it a perfect spot for photography.
If you're lucky enough to catch a train passing by, you’ll witness a breathtaking scene as a colorful train slowly moves across the arched bridge, resembling a moment from a movie.
The best chance for photography is when the train from Hatton to Badulla crosses the bridge.
To reach the Nine Arch Bridge, visitors can take a scenic hiking route from the Nine Arch Bridge Path entrance in Ella town, which takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes on foot.

Whale watching in Trincomalee is one of the most captivating activities on Sri Lanka’s east coast. This region is particularly known as a prime spot for observing large whales, including blue whales and sperm whales. Additionally, there is a high chance of encountering pods of dolphins, such as bottlenose and spinner dolphins, making it an unforgettable experience for marine life enthusiasts.
The best season for whale watching runs from March to August. Boat tours typically depart early in the morning, around 6 AM, as the calm morning seas increase the chances of successful sightings. The tours last approximately 3 to 4 hours, with guides leading visitors to the best locations for spotting whales and dolphins.
Most tours depart from marinas near Uppuveli Beach or Nilaveli Beach.
Pigeon Island

Pigeon Island National Park is a stunning marine sanctuary located off the coast of Trincomalee on Sri Lanka’s east coast. Renowned for its vibrant coral reefs, it is considered one of the best snorkeling spots in the country.
Home to some of Sri Lanka’s most well-preserved coral reefs, the park supports a diverse marine ecosystem, with over 100 species of coral and more than 300 species of fish inhabiting the area.
The best time to visit is between April and September, during the dry season on Sri Lanka’s east coast.
Visitors typically reach the island by joining a boat tour from Nilaveli or Trincomalee, with the boat ride taking approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Most tours offer snorkeling gear and fin rentals, making it easy to explore the underwater beauty of the park.


Surfing , Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay, located in southeastern Sri Lanka, is a world-renowned surfing hotspot. Its stunning coastline and perfectly shaped waves attract surfers of all levels, from beginners to professionals. The bay is also a well-known host of the World Surf League, drawing top surfers from around the globe.
The best time to visit is during the dry season, from May to September. During this period, favorable wind conditions and consistent waves create ideal surfing conditions. The peak season, from June to August, offers the best waves, with international surfing competitions taking place as well.
Panama Wewa

Located about 16 km south of Arugam Bay, Panama Wewa is a hidden wildlife haven, largely unknown to mainstream tourists. The word "Wewa" means "reservoir" in Sinhala, and this body of water was originally built as part of Sri Lanka’s ancient and sophisticated irrigation system.
Panama Wewa serves as a habitat for migratory birds and is also a sanctuary for crocodiles. The area is home to a significant crocodile population, and with some luck, visitors may be able to observe them up close. However, as this is a completely natural environment with no rangers present, visitors should exercise caution and observe wildlife at their own risk.
Nearby, Panama Village is home to the Vedda people, Sri Lanka’s indigenous community, offering visitors a unique opportunity to learn about their culture and traditions.
Panama Wewa is approximately a 30-minute drive from Arugam Bay, making it an ideal destination for a day trip.
